HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Go out and enjoy yourself! Wear a costume! It's fun! I've been Starbuck all day at work and will continue to be Starbuck for the rest of the night!

And for you Halloween amusement, check out this most hilarious short made by my best friend John Szeluga:

Mark Twain Is Smart

"The so-called Christian nations are the most enlightened and progressive...but in spite of their religion, not because of it. The Church has opposed every innovation and discovery from the day of Galileo down to our own time, when the use of anesthetic in childbirth was regarded as a sin because it avoided the biblical curse pronounced against Eve. And every step in astronomy and geology ever taken has been opposed by bigotry and superstition. The Greeks surpassed us in artistic culture and in architecture five hundred years before Christian religion was born."
--Mark Twain

Just a great quote I found on another blog. Man, how terrifying is the childbirth anesthetic thing?! Cripes!

Garth Ennis' Night Witches

I went down to my favourite comic shop last night (Jim Hanley's Universe) to say hi to me pals Garth and Russ as they signed copies of their new book The Night Witches! (Actually the series is called Garth Ennis Battlefields, which will be three stories, three issues each. Night Witches is the first, drawn by fantastic Jack of Fables artist, Russ Braun.)

I got my signed copy and read it on the way home (after having a few beers with the lads, of course). LOVE IT! The story is awesome, about Russian FEMALE bomber pilots!! Fantastic! And Russ did a bang-up job on it as well. Highly recommended!!

There are two covers, the John Cassaday one is my favourite though:

And here's my favourite page (might try to wrangle this out of Russ in the future...hehe):Anyway, definitely pick this up if A) you like Garth's work; B) you like war stories; C) you like tough chick stories; D) you like pretty sequential art; or E) you want to read a great comic. And this isn't my friend bias talking, promise!

Oh, one last thing, Garth is really great for writing about true war stories, if you think this is cool, definitely read about the real Night Witches!

I HATE CARRIE BRADSHAW!!

Season 3, Episode 9.

WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH HER?!?!?!?!

Aiden is the greatest guy EVER. DUMB BITCH!

I Love Carrie Bradshaw!

I've been watching Sex and the City from the beginning on HBO OnDemand and I am loving it. Never thought I would like it this much, but it's excellent. Can NEVER. EVER. EVER. watch this with my mother (like she wants me to, she loves this show), however.

Anyway, the reason for this post: The end of Season 3, Episode 3. Carrie gets a thank you note for attending a fundraiser from the bitch who married her ex. It says something along the lines of "So sorry I couldn't be their."

Carrie laughed at the thing that would have drove given me a similar reaction. She spelled THERE wrong. haha She calls Miranda laughing and calling her an idiot. Awesome.

Obviously, she might not be an idiot, sometimes you just write things incorrectly even if you know the right way...but it's amazing how many people mess up the their/there/they're and other similar grammar traps. And I'm using the term "traps" lightly, as this is really not that difficult. ::sigh::

Anyway, that moment made me really love Carrie.

Now I Want A Frakkin' XBox 360

I played Fable 2 at my friend's house the other day for about an hour and a half and I can't stop thinking about it!!! I'm already looking on ebay to see if there are cheap used XBoxes... ::sigh::

It's cool, cuz your character changes with the choices you make (though I haven't played long enough for it to happen to me yet). You can even get fat if you eat to much fatty foods! But mainly you turn either good or bad depending on whether you do good deeds or bad ones. Frakkin' awesome. And it's also interesting b/c you fight villains etc., but you also flirt with and marry people, have kids and homes (you can have multiple homes and rent them out). Craziness! I couldn't find any screen shots with the girl (which I picked, you can be either or), but her are some. I believe the dude is flirting in the first one.

This is just some art or whatever, but I liked it. I love your trusty dog sidekick that goes with you everywhere. I named mine Ajax. :-P

I know if I do somehow manage to get a cheap XBox and this game, I'll either never leave my house, or I'll play religiously for a few weeks before I get distracted and forget about it. Either one kind of sucks, but I'm not thinking about that right now. Right now I'm thinking about avenging my sister, getting new Will or Skills and learning new expressions! haha

Very Relevant Quote

"We will destroy from within what we are trying to protect from without."
— Dwight Eisenhower

Ok, so I got it from The Daily Show guest Eugene Jarecki (whose book I now want to read, The American Way of War), but still. Awesome and very fitting. I wish our government would pay attention to smart people. ::sigh::

Anyway, not to be too serious, here's an AMAZING clip of Jason Jones talking to the folks over in Wasilla where our dear Sarah Palin seems to think the best people are made. This is actually the second time The Daily Show has had a segment in Wasilla. While they're both hilarious (and scary), I like this one better because he tries to find out what the mayor of Wasilla is actually responsible for and how that prepares someone to be the Vice President of the United States...

Palin rap

Since I've been posting so much Palin stuff, I'd be remiss if I didn't include this. Pretty funny, but not nearly mean enough... Which is why I hate that she was on the show. Grrrrr...

I love Marky Mark!!!

He's awesome. Watch this and love him, too. :)

Sarah Palin was also on this episode commenting on Tina's impression and also in the Weekend Update segment. While it was funny, I just hated that she was on the show. Grrrrr. I hate her. >:-(

Starbuck! ::sigh::

Starbuck. I love her. She's so the awesomest ever. Once upon a time I was obsessed with Xena. I still love her, don't get me wrong, but Starbuck is the Xena of the FUTURE! ;-) haha

Seriously though, she's awesome, so I'm going to be her for Halloween. I've got the tank tops, the dog tags, a gun hip holster and I'm just waiting for my replica gun! I also plan to dye my hair blonde, but if it doesn't come out right, I'll get a wig. (The dying my hair thing is not that big a deal as I change my hair colour nearly every 6 months.) I even bought the Galactica lietenent pips to put on my jacket!

There really isn't much more to say, but I'll post pictures of me in costume when the time comes. In the meantime, look how awesome she is:

The End.

PS I didn't mention, but if you live under a rock, Starbuck is from the new Battlestar Galactica series on the Sci-Fi channel. :-P

I KNOW he's a Scientologist!

Since I've been talking about Beck all last week (and continue to, obviously), I've been hearing from everyone "He's a Scientologist, you know."

Yes. I know.

And I don't like it either. But what are you going to do? I love his music (and his voice... ::sigh::) and that's that.

Anyway, here's an article I found. It makes me feel a little better about it...but I really wish he just thought it was funny to be a Scientologist or something...

Beck, The Scientologist

While I'm not a fan of ANY religion, this one seems particularly stupid because the book it's based on was written in many of its believers' lifetimes AND by a KNOWN science-fiction writer!!! Does that not seem suspicious to these people??? What the hell?! At least for most of the other religions (I say "most of" only because there might be another I don't know about), the "holy books" and whatnot were written so far back that you can't "prove" any of it was fake or whatever.

Ahhhh...I still love him, though. ;-)

The End.

PS And just look at him! Adorable...

BECK BECK BECK BECK BECK BECK

Where the hell have I been?!?! I haven't missed more than a day (or two) since I started this blog, then I go 5 days without posting! What gives?! BECK! Beck is the reason!! My most favouritest musician in all the world! The one artist I could never give up, the one I would choose if I had to chose one to listen to for the rest of my life.

And I got to see him THREE NIGHTS IN A ROW!!!! WOOOOO!!! So super frakkin' awesome, I can't even explain.

He played pretty much the exact same sets the first two night, but then switched it up a little for the last. For example, he started with Loser the first two, and Devil's Haircut the last. But he put Loser in during the middle, but started it off with a little guitar solo. Sweet. Also, only on Friday (the last night) did he play any songs I didn't recognise. I'm not sure if they were just from the newest album which I haven't heard TOO many times (though I think I'd at least recognise them) or if they were new, as of yet unheard, ones. That would be nice. But I have no idea.

Anyway, here's some pics from the three nights. He had like a giant Lite-Brite® board behind him that did differnt stuff, like show pictures or giant colour light shows or my favourite, showing him and the band.

This is my view the first night:

Here's the second night. MUCH closer, but also MUCH more expensive. Damn you StubHub! (But TOTALLY worth it!) (And this show I was accompanied by the person who introduced me to Beck in Junior High when I was 12 or 13. Awesome.)

I thought this bit was pretty cool, they all stepped away from their instruments and came up front with little handheld electronic type shit. They played Hell Yes and Clap Hands this way...and something else, I can't remember.

This chick was awesome. :-) I wish I was her...

Here's some from the last night, much further away, but still frakkin' awesome. I love him. Seriously. A lot.

Anyway, you can see some of the colour light show-y type stuff!

Lastly, I managed to snag bits of video here and there. Here's him "saying good-bye" after the encore on the last night:

And here's almost all of one of my favourite songs, which I've mentioned before:

I really miss going already, it became my nightly routine! :) (Oh yeah, this was up at United Palace all the way uptown on 175th St. I'd never heard of it before, but it's a really pretty place, very small, and I think it used to be a church!) '

I can't wait until he's back here. I think I have to go to every show he ever plays in NYC. :)

The End.

PS As if that wasn't enough, I've been listening to my entire collection of Beck on shuffle all day (and a bit this weekend, as well). :-P

Vote NO in Palin PBS Poll

Just take a second. It may seem silly, but any little bit to help influence people to NOT vote McCain/Palin is worth it. And this really is easy. PBS has an online poll posted asking if Sarah Palin is qualified. Apparently the Republicans knew about this in advance and are flooding the voting with YES votes. It's only a poll, but it will be reported on PBS, picked up by mainstream media, and can influence undecided voters in swing states. Please do two things -- takes 20 seconds. Click on link and vote yourself.

Here's the link: http://www.pbs.org/now/polls/poll-435.html

Then send this to every single Obama-Biden voter you know, and urge
them to vote and pass it on. The last thing we need is PBS having to say our viewers think Sarah/ Palin is qualified.

As a reward, watch this funny Palin clip!! I always loved David Letterman!!!

Mark Walhberg Talks to Animals

I laughed my ass off. Watched this with my pal, Thighs, the last night. We didn't even realise Marky Mark was someone one could imitate. I didn't think he had a way of talking that was so distinctive. But he does. And Andy Samberg did an amazing job. I hope this is a recurring bit! Watch!

Bit old, but I still love it!

On the way home tonight, I woke up to this on my iPod. Haven't heard it in awhile, but I still think it's awesomely hilarious. The video is ridiculous too. haha One of the best covers I've ever heard. Makes me laugh every time. Enjoy!

Sketchbook Series #2

I got a new sketch the other day, one I never thought I'd get, so I'm thrilled. Steve Dillon! However, my good friend (and artist of Jack of Fables) currently has it so I didn't get a chance to scan. Instead I'll post another one! haha

Since the first one I posted was Bryan Hitch, here's the sketch I got in San Diego from Bryan's inker, Andrew Currie (who, by the way, is a sweetheart). It's my girl Rogue!

I was almost going to have a Rogue-themed sketchbook, but I didn't want to be to limited so I just went with ladies (though I added the animal clause to get Lockheed, Ampersand and others in there). However, since Rogue's my favourite super hero, I've got a few of her already, and I'm sure there'll be others. :) This one's an awesome rendition!
