SNL Still Kicking Ass!

So I watched last week's SNL last night (aaah, love that DVR). It was just another example of how good this show has been in the last few years. Now I know not every sketch is great and some episodes are weaker than others (I was disappointed, for example, that Seth Rogen's episode a while back was kinda crap).

I didn't expect much from this one as I couldn't care less about the host, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, but it turned out to be really great. I even enjoyed the opening political bit which I haven't been lately. It was upsetting because I have faith in Obama and it totally made fun of him, but they were spot on and it was amusing. Gordon-Levitt was a bit strange, I must say. He strikes me as being slightly crazy...I can't quite explain it. His opening dance number (yep, a dance number) was pretty impressive all things considered, but was also a bit weird. (His good-bye also freaked me out a bit for some reason... :-P)

Anyway, the fake commercial they typically do after the monologue was PHENOMENAL for this episode. Granted, I'll eat up anything that makes fun of Sarah Palin, but this was superb. They re-cut the trailer for 2012 (in itself a ridiculous thing)...it's too great to explain, watch it here. It's not available for embedding, I'm assuming the linked website got some special permissions. Too fantastic. WATCH IT!

Also awesome throughout the episode was Al Gore's appearances. I don't know why, but I love this guy. His appearance on 30 Rock for Green Week was also great. And he DOES make fun of the fact that NBC calls him up every time there's a Green Week. He even sat through that insane"What Up With That?" sketch. haha Those are ridiculous!

I WAS able to get the Mellow Show clip from Hulu to embed. This was great. Dave Matthews, who was the musical guest, does a pretty great impression of Ozzy. I'm so curious how they came up with that. Like, did they ask him first who he though he could impersonate, or did they just take their chances with Ozzy and he nailed it? If I ever run into Bill Hader (who actually plays Dave Matthews in this same sketch!) again, I'm going to ask him. (Not that unlikely as he's written a comic for us with Seth Meyers. It's collected in Spider-Man: The Short Halloween Premiere Hardcover! Check it out! ;-P)

Last but not least, Andy Samberg didn't disappoint with his digital short. It's absolutely ridiculous, but I love it. Not as great as Dick in a Box or Mother Lover, but it's still pretty entertaining. Enjoy!

You can watch the full episode on Hulu if you feel so inclined. I recommend it!

PS Spoiler if you didn't watch that Palin video yet... but this was the scariest part in my opinion!! haha

Some REALLY SMART Palin Supporters (That's Sarcasm)

I know this isn't ALL the Palin supporters out there, but it's still pretty funny. How can you be SO supportive of a political person to stand in line for hours waiting to meet her if you know practically NOTHING about her policies. Its so sad how easily people are brainwashed!

PS Didn't think I'd be using that Palin tag again after the election. Ugh.

Very Relevant Quote

"We will destroy from within what we are trying to protect from without."
— Dwight Eisenhower

Ok, so I got it from The Daily Show guest Eugene Jarecki (whose book I now want to read, The American Way of War), but still. Awesome and very fitting. I wish our government would pay attention to smart people. ::sigh::

Anyway, not to be too serious, here's an AMAZING clip of Jason Jones talking to the folks over in Wasilla where our dear Sarah Palin seems to think the best people are made. This is actually the second time The Daily Show has had a segment in Wasilla. While they're both hilarious (and scary), I like this one better because he tries to find out what the mayor of Wasilla is actually responsible for and how that prepares someone to be the Vice President of the United States...

Palin rap

Since I've been posting so much Palin stuff, I'd be remiss if I didn't include this. Pretty funny, but not nearly mean enough... Which is why I hate that she was on the show. Grrrrr...

He's got some very smart points on what's going on. I only wish I could take the ideas and plop them into every American's head...

There's a bit there about sports too, if you're into that sort of thing (as I am). :)

Vote NO in Palin PBS Poll

Just take a second. It may seem silly, but any little bit to help influence people to NOT vote McCain/Palin is worth it. And this really is easy. PBS has an online poll posted asking if Sarah Palin is qualified. Apparently the Republicans knew about this in advance and are flooding the voting with YES votes. It's only a poll, but it will be reported on PBS, picked up by mainstream media, and can influence undecided voters in swing states. Please do two things -- takes 20 seconds. Click on link and vote yourself.

Here's the link: http://www.pbs.org/now/polls/poll-435.html

Then send this to every single Obama-Biden voter you know, and urge
them to vote and pass it on. The last thing we need is PBS having to say our viewers think Sarah/ Palin is qualified.

As a reward, watch this funny Palin clip!! I always loved David Letterman!!!

My good friend Christine posted today about Alaskan women protesting Sarah Palin. This is my favourite image:

Tonight's The Daily Show

Real quick. Too funny to not post about. The Daily Show tonight had a segment where they taped a bunch of old Jewish Floridians watching the presidential debate and their reactions. The segment ended with this most hilarious bit:

Old Woman: She's a big horse, isn't she? I shouldn't say that. Thats's...nothing against her.
Old Man: Who?
Old Woman: Michelle. She'...uh...
Old Man: She's got a big tuchas.
Old Woman: She's a big horse, I said.
Old Man: Yeah. A lot of black women have big tuchas.
Old Woman: Not all of them. They have to come from a certain tribe.

Hahahahahaha Old people. Funny, but scary... :-P

(Also, this segment was hosted by my new favourite correspondent, Wyatt Cenac!!)

More Palin Fun

My aunt forwarded this to me this morning. So glad to know my family is with me on this.

I'm a little confused.

Let me see if I have this straight... If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're 'exotic, different.'

Grow up in Alaska killing and eating moose, you're a quintessential American story.

If your name is Barack you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.

But if you name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you're a maverick.

Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.

Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you're well grounded.

If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, you don't have any real leadership experience.

If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with fewer than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you're qualified to become the country's second highest ranking executive (and according to the actuarial tables, you have a greater than 30% chance of succeeding the president during your first term).

If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real Christian.

If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, left your severely handicapped wife and married the heiress the next month, you're a Christian.

If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.

If, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state's school systems while your un-wed teen daughter ends up pregnant, you're very responsible.

If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family values don't represent America's.

If your husband is nicknamed 'First Dude', with at least one DWI conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.

OK, much clearer now!

It really scares me to know that there are women voting for McCain/Palin just because Palin is a woman. Or even worse, because Clinton isn't the Democratic candidate. I'm all for a female President, but not THIS female... ::shudder::

Palin/Clinton!

The Sarah Palin/Hilary Clinton skit on Saturday Night Live last night (which I watched today, thank the cable gods for DVR...) was fan-fucking-TASTIC! I tried to embed the clip from youtube for you, but alas, NBC won't have it. They will, however, show it themselves! Click here to watch it! One of the best SNL skits in a long time.

Gosh, I love Tiny Fey... :-)

Stolen from Nick's blog, re: Sarah Palin

This thing with Sarah Palin is really, really bugging me. She sucks. And the idea that it's possible she could become President scares the crap outta me (McCain's old, he could die).

I stole this link from Nick's blog, it's a letter from an Alaskan who knows Sarah Palin. Read it. If it gives you another reason to vote for Obama, all the better. Tell everyone you know. We cannot put this woman in a position to become president!

I won't pretend I'm super political, or that I'm completely caught up with candidates and their issues, because I'm not. I want to be...but to be honest, when it comes to what I'm going to read on my commute, it's going to be books or comic books over the paper. I rely on friends and family to keep me informed (so thanks, Nick!). Oh, and the Daily Show. haha :-P (It's shameful, I know, don't hate me.)

Anyway, read this and please get as pissed off as I am.
